WHY VOLUNTEER AT THE HANGAR?

The Hangar Flight Museum is fortunate to have a strong group of volunteers who offer their immeasurable skills and talents to the museum on a daily basis. Thanks to their passion and dedication we are able to offer a unique experience to our visitors, deliver interesting programming to our students, and maintain our archival and artifact collections for future generations to enjoy. We support and encourage volunteer engagement and offer many benefits to our volunteers including:

  • unlimited free admission to the Museum and select special events
  • an individual annual non-voting membership
  • 10% discount in our gift shop
  • volunteer recognition events including our annual Christmas appreciation reception
  • the opportunity to work with a unique collection alongside other like-minded individuals
  • flexible scheduling

Volunteering has given me the chance to “share my knowledge” after serving my time in the RCAF. Being a people person it is great to talk to folks from all over the world and knowing we have a common interest in aircraft is just a little icing on the cake.

The Hangar Flight Museum Seeking Board Applicants

to fill current and upcoming board vacancies

The Hangar Flight Museum seeks to be a premier destination to explore, engage, and experience the transformational power of flight. We provide a rich understanding and appreciation of the evolution of flight by telling stories related to our historic collection that provide inspiration to current and future generations. The history of aviation is closely tied to Canada’s development as a nation and to Calgary’s development as a vibrant, international city. Our museum tells this history, expands and inspires visitors’ knowledge of the stories surrounding aviation’s role in immigration, oil and gas exploration, war and civilian pleasure travel. The Museum is a Civic Partner of The City of Calgary and a large part of our collection is owned by The City. We are honored to be entrusted by The City and others who have donated artifacts to us with the stewardship of our collection for the benefit of Calgarians and visitors from around the world. The Hangar Flight Museum is finalizing its next multi-year strategic plan and will soon be launching an exciting fundraising campaign.

When I retired I knew I wanted to find a volunteer position where I could help people because that would provide me with a meaningful and satisfying activity, but I didn’t know where. It has been a very rewarding volunteering experience at The Hangar and I would highly recommend it for others.

It is a privilege to be able to participate in the efforts to preserve and display these magnificent aircraft, to pass on their significance, and the knowledge of my own experiences, to both students and visitors alike, and to do so alongside the other volunteers and staff.
