SILVER DARTS - IN THE COMMUNITY

We are bringing our museum experience on the road! Let us join you in your facility to share the riveting tale of Calgary’s aerospace heritage.

Our travelling presentations include the opportunity to handle authentic museum artifacts and hear the stories of the people who have made aerospace technology what it is today.

This educational program is geared towards those who face barriers in coming to the museum, such as those who cannot travel due to mobility difficulties.

Currently, Silver Darts explores artifacts from the Second World War and honours the brave men and women who flew and maintained one of the most celebrated planes of the time, the Avro Lancaster.

Stay tuned for more topics coming in the new year! Outreach sessions include a 2-hour presentation at your facility with an opportunity to handle authentic museum artifacts.

Duration: 120 minutes

Program Cost: $175 for up to 20 participants with an extra $5 per additional participant. Session time may be adjusted slightly to accommodate the number of participants.

In 2025, thanks to support from the Calgary Foundation, mileage fees will be waived up to 30km.

SENSORY HOURS - MARCH 27, 10AM-12PM

Sensory Hours are back and they are here to stay! Monthly going forward The Hangar will have scheduled Sensory Hours for our visitors with sensory processing disabilities. If you come to visit during this time, and you do not require Sensory Hours, you are also more than welcome to enjoy our galleries.

Join us from 10am to 12pm and tour the museum with dimmer lighting, muted videos, short on-demand tours, and a quiet space (Our Lancaster Room) to regulate and ground yourself if needed. With no extra fee for admission, and staff available for active accommodation, our hope is that the museum becomes more welcoming for those who need support in enjoying our space.

To further support our neurodiverse visitors, we have recently partnered with Variety Children’s Charity to make sensory backpacks available for all visitors who may benefit from them. Each backpack is free to borrow at our front desk, and contains a pair of noise-canceling headphones, sunglasses, a communication board, activity books, and sensory regulating tools to accommodate those with sensory processing difficulties. If you would like to borrow a backpack, please bring a piece of photo-ID to leave at the front desk for the duration of your visit.
