SIMULATOR DAY - APRIL 13

Take to the skies and experience first-hand what it's like to be a pilot! Join us at The Museum for our Simulator Day and show off your aviation skills. Visitors must be present at their booked times and once booked the time cannot be changed.

The Simulator Day in May will be May 18 - tickets will be available online soon. 
 

There is an age minimum for the event, only people age 10 and up can use our simulator.

MOTHER'S DAY AT THE HANGAR

We will be celebrating Mother's Day on Sunday May 11! It will be a great opportunity for families to connect and make new longstanding memories together. Aviation history, present, and future are for everyone. Children tend to be excited by aircraft - one might even say obsessed. Mom will get the opportunity to connect with her children through the science and history of flight. 

Highlights for 2025:

• Mom gets in free when accompanying a paid admission
• Tickets available online and at the door
• WP Puppet Theatre presents: Why the Rabbit's Nose Wiggles at 11:30AM and 2:00PM
• Write 'air-mail' to mom

Tickets will be available closer to the date. 

ANNUAL FATHER'S DAY WEEKEND EVENT: WINGS AND WHEELS

Each year on Father's Day weekend we partner with local car clubs to bring in special "wheels" to join our wings. It's a ton of fun for the whole family and includes activities such as: flying crafts, vehicle show and shine, and entry into the flight decks of a few of our aircraft. 

We are now taking vehicle registrations for the show & shine portion of the 2025 event. Please fill out this form, and return it to us at info@thehangarmuseum.ca 

Please note that in 2025 helicopter rides will not be part of this event. We are looking into being able to offer this experience separately later in June 2025 - stay tuned for future updates.

NOW BOARDING: OPEN AIRCRAFT DAYS 

One of the most highly requested experiences at The Hangar Flight Museum is the ability to sit in our aircraft. Our aircraft are historical artifacts so we do our best to protect them by performing preventative maintenance as well as requiring clean closed-toe shoes for this experience. This event was made possible thanks to support from RJC Engineers. 

2024 UPDATE: Now Boarding is now complete for 2024. 2025 calendar is coming soon!

Choose to come based on your favourite plane, or the date you're available for a visit, or come see all 5 planes this summer! Our membership rates are great value for experiencing all that The Hangar has to offer this summer.  

Closed-toe shoes must be worn for this experience. Gloves and bump-hats will be provided for entry into the Avro Lancaster. 

* if we are unable to open the scheduled aircraft for any reason, a different aircraft will be substituted. 

HOMESCHOOL DAYS

We hosted two homeschool days in January! We anticipate having Homeschool Days next in October. 

We are welcoming homeschool families with school age children to participate in the education programming sessions. Here students will have the chance to learn about the transformative power of flight and amazing stories from Western Canadian aviation! During the sessions we will be giving students museum tours, open plane experiences, and craft activities. Each one of these items in the sessions has been made suitable for mixed age groups although the strongest links are with the grade 5 flight curriculum.

Our education programming will be available on your choice of 2 days and your choice of either a morning or an afternoon session. The craft and tour portions are based on our predeveloped education program called “Theory of Flight”, which teaches students the basics of the principles of flight. This tour is a great way for students to experience real-life application of abstract concepts and they are able to discover the secrets of flight using real aircraft. There is an associated cost of $16.75 per participating student, which covers the cost of the tour, craft, open plane, and museum admission. Parents will be designated as chaperones for their students and are not required to pay for admission while accompanying their child during the sessions. However, donations are always welcome!

Parents will have the ability to register in advance for the sessions this month by following this link. There, parents are able to see how the morning/afternoon sessions will be structured so they can plan their schedule accordingly.

HALLOWEEN WEEKEND - THE HAUNTED PUMPKIN HUNT

Our first Halloween weekend event occurred on October 26 & 27, 2024 during our regular admission hours of 10am-4pm. The activities were designed for ages 3-10 with: 

• scavenger hunt
• BINGO
• flying bat craft
• save $2 admission on children admission tickets (age 3-11) for children wearing a costume! 

ANNUAL REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICE

Each year on Remembrance Day we gather to ensure we never forget. The helicopter landing area behind The Hangar Flight Museum was once a parade square during the Second World War as part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. Our wonderful neighbours Eagle Copters and Alpine Helicopters have been kind enough to partner with us to host the service in this space for the past few years. Snow or shine we find a way to remember. Admission by cash donation. 

2024 service details:

CTV News Calgary will air the service live on TV and online at CTVNewsCalgary.ca beginning at 10:30AM. 

In person service is outdoors, please dress for the weather. Doors open at 9:30AM, and we request that everyone is seated by 10:15AM for a 10:30AM start time. The museum will be open for admissions by donation from noon-4PM. 

We are a drop-off location for donations to the Veterans Association Food Bank as well. 

MUSEUM ANNIVERSARY

In 2025, we will be celebrating our 50th anniversary in November. More details to come when we are closer to the date. 

FAMILY DAY - MONDAY FEBRUARY 17, 2025 - SOLD OUT

Thank you to Rocky Mountain Aircraft for supporting this event for the third year in a row! Tickets on Family Day will be free - however, we expect to sell out so preregistration is required. This is a great time to visit the museum as a family. Tickets are now sold out. 

NATIONAL AVIATION WEEKEND - FEBRUARY 22 & 23, 2025

National Aviation Day occurs yearly on February 23, which is the anniversary of the first powered flight in Canada with the Silver Dart! It's a great way to discover the history of aviation. This event is aimed to entertain the entire family. We're celebrating National Aviation Day with a full weekend of fun. (Tickets are available online and at the door.) 

2025's event featured:

• 45min tours - for no additional cost! Tour schedule: 11:30AM and 2:00PM
• 15min presentations at 11AM, 12:30PM, 1:30PM and 3:00PM
• Build a flying device!
